FAQs

FAQs

Why are all your activities confined to Cambodia?

The answer is twofold.

First, unlike other countries in South East Asia, Cambodia experienced an extremely challenging period during the Pol Pot regime in the 70’s which brought immense turmoil to the country and its people. As a result, Cambodia continues to face serious challenges in basic social infrastructure and remains one of the poorest countries in the region.

Second, our founder, Paget Sayers established the Buddhist Library Cambodia Project (now KCCO) in Cambodia and YourAid in Australia as sister organisations, with the specific purpose of improving the lives of the Cambodian people, especially children.

Would all the money that I donate be used to fund your programs?

Yes. YourAid has a primary benefactor who ensures that all of YourAid’s overhead costs. As a result, 100% of other donations received go directly towards funding the programs and activities carried out by KCCO (formerly BLCP).

Can I be a volunteer if I am visiting as a tourist to Cambodia?

We would welcome volunteers who are able to offer their specialist skills particularly as dentists or trained teachers and accordingly would have formal qualifications and/or direct experience in these areas. This is because these type of expertise is still lacking in Cambodia. The period of engagement with us as a volunteer should be for upwards of three weeks.

We do not think it is ideal for tourists to want to volunteer for a few days with KCCO (formerly BLCP) which already has its staff to undertake the various activities.

How do you ensure that KCCO is properly managed?

YourAid maintains strong direct oversight over all activities of KCCO (formerly BLCP) including its finances, staff and operations. We have full access to KCCO (formerly BLCO)’s financial records and receive monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports.

The annual budget of KCCO (formerly BLCP) is vetted and approved by the Board of YourAid. Each month’s expenditures are also reviewed and verified by YourAid’s management before final approval is granted by the Board. Additionally, KCCO (formerly BLCP)’s financial statements are audited by an international accounting firm.

We have implemented various policies including a Child Protection Policy to guide the staff of KCCO (formerly BLCP) particularly in the execution of their duties.

I would like to make a donation for a particular item as a gift to someone?

We would be happy to accept your donation, especially if the amount is $250 or more, to fund the purchase of a specific item such as a water purification system, a box of books or other project-related activities.

For amounts less then $250, it may be difficult for us to track the funds toward a specific item; however, all your contribution will still be used to support our ongoing programs.

The donation tiers listed on our donation page provide a general indication of the typical costs associated with our various initiatives.

If I have concerns regarding any aspect of your activities, who do I talk to?

We welcome any ideas, suggestions, or concerns that could help improve our operations whether in Australia or Cambodia.

You are welcome to contact the Management Team of YourAid by reaching out through the Contact Us page.
