FAQs

FAQs

Why are all your activities confined to Cambodia?

The answer is two fold. First, is that unlike other countries in South East Asia, Cambodia went through a very challenging period during the Pol Pot regime in the 70’s where there was much turmoil brought to the country and its people. As a result, Cambodia has problems of basic social environment and is one of the poorest countries in the region.

Our founder, Paget Sayers established BLCP in Cambodia and YourAid in Australia as sister organisations to offer help to improve the lives of the people of Cambodia in particular children.

Would all the money that I donate be used to fund your programs?

Yes. YourAid has a primary benefactor which assures that the overheads of YourAid would be fully covered by this specific donor. Accordingly, all other proceeds received would go towards fully funding the activities under the programs undertaken by BLCP.

Can I be a volunteer if I am visiting as a tourist to Cambodia?

We would welcome volunteers who are able to offer their specialist skills particularly as dentists or trained teachers and accordingly would have formal qualifications and/or direct experience in these areas. This is because these type of expertise is still lacking in Cambodia. The period of engagement with us as a volunteer should be for upwards of three weeks.

We do not think it is ideal for tourists to want to volunteer for a few days with BLCP which already has its staff to undertake the various activities.

How do you ensure that BLCP is properly managed?

YourAid has a strong direct oversight over all activities of BLCP including its finances, staff and operations. We have access to all financial records of BLCP, receive monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports from BLCP. The annual budget of BLCP is vetted and approved by the Board of YourAid. Each month’s expenditure is also checked and verified by the management of YourAid before approval is given by the Board. The financial statements of BLCP are audited by an international accounting firm.

We have in place various policies including a Child Protection Policy for in particular the staff of BLCP to be guided in undertaking their duties.

I would like to make a donation for a particular item as a gift to someone?

We would be happy to accept your donation, if the amount is more than $250, to be used specifically to fund the purchase of an item such as a water purification system, a box of books or to fund any other activities. For amounts less then $250, it would be difficult for us to track the spending although the monies received would be used to fund our various programs. The tiers which we provided in our donation page provides an indication of the amounts we would spend for our expenditures.

If I have concerns regarding any aspect of your activities, who do I talk to?

We would welcome any ideas or suggestions to improve our operations either in Australia or Cambodia.

You are welcomed to contact either our Strategy or Operations Manager by communicating with us through the Contact Us page.
