“It was an enriching experience and I would love to return back one day.” -Dentist Upekha from Sydney

YourAid and BLCP would like to express their sincere gratitude to dentist Upekha Chandrawansa, for volunteering at BLCP Dental Clinic for Children from the 17th to the 24th of April, 2019.

Upekha has kindly shared her experience with us.

“Ever since I graduated from Dental School I have always wanted to participate in a Dental Volunteer program to be able to help different communities with my dental skills. I found out about the Buddhist Library Group Dental program through work colleagues who spoke highly of this program in Kampot.

Although I have worked in both public and private clinics back in Sydney, Australia, I was nervous but very excited to take part in this program knowing it would be different but a very unique experience.

I was lucky enough to get some materials kindly donated by Dentavision, Henry Schien, and Piksters which helped me to offer more services to the patients. I saw children from multiple schools across a range of age groups and sometimes even their teachers. The children were very appreciative of the services we were able to provide and made me realise the importance of oral hygiene across the wider community.

The local team were very supportive and their diligence inspired me to achieve the best outcome for these children in Cambodia. It was an enriching experience and I would love to return back one day.”

We would also like to thank Dentavison, Henry Schien, and Piksters for valuable dental supplies for the clinics.
